Located within our Curry’s Post School premises are facilities designed to support our students from underprivileged backgrounds on their journey to success. With our school library, computer and IT centre, school kitchen, and basic sports fields, we offer a holistic support system, where learning and play intersect to create a vibrant community dedicated to student upliftment.
Inside our classrooms, personalized attention and modern resources help students to thrive academically. Here, students are encouraged to explore their potential, develop critical thinking skills, and build a foundation for lifelong learning.
Our bright and well-stocked library is loved by the children, and they enjoy the reading groups for all grades which are run by volunteers. Children from Grades 4 to 7 are able to take a book home to read every week. This has contributed to a significant improvement in literacy and English skills. (It’s a little known fact that at non-fee paying schools, teaching of all subjects is in home language – in this case isiZulu - until Grade 3, after which there’s a sudden change to all subjects being taught in English in Grade 4 – a serious challenge for many children!).
One of our library volunteers is an Integrated Learning Therapist and has regular classes for children with learning difficulties and concentration problems.
Our IT centre has recently been renovated by our volunteers – walls were painted, recycled carpet tiles installed, blinds installed, and desks sanded down and varnished. All the computers were upgraded. All our children have regular IT lessons with our full-time IT teacher, Mondli Ngubane, and this equips them with essential skills for the future.
Our school kitchen was recently renovated and extended and is now a bright and spacious place. A nutritious meal is provided for each child every day and the kitchen is kept sparkling clean by our staff.
On our sports field, teamwork and resilience are cultivated, and children learn essential life lessons. Being physically actives boosts energy and improves mental health, as well as promoting healthy growth. The main sports played are soccer and netball and the children participate in tournaments which are held at Michaelhouse school every year. Recently added sports are rugby, cricket and athletics.
Our school hall provides a valuable space for school assembly meetings, school cultural activities, as well as Curry's Post community programme facilities. Our older students have ballroom dancing lessons every Friday (kindly subsidised by a local community member) and they will soon be ready to participate in competitions.
